The old and the new, like yin and yang, are the fundamental principles of the urban environment. The nature of each of these components is complex and controversial. The old is reliability, tradition, memory, but at the same time, backwardness, dilapidation, neglect. The new is progress, development, progress, but also risk, uncertainty, oblivion of the past. Clearing a place for the new, we often lose the old, and the new might soon lose its newness, and become old. Preservation of the old means its regular renewal. The old is experience, the new is hope.
This year, ARCH Moscow will be held for the first time not in the usual Central House of Artists, but at a new location - at The Moscow Manege. Changing the venue is an excellent opportunity to analyze the established tradition and to look at the issues that were raised in the past from a new perspective. At the new place, we will recall the themes of the past exhibitions, and use them as a starter for the main sections and special projects jf ARCH Moscow
