CONVEGNO RISPARMIO ENERGETICO

Harmonisation and Coordination of European Renewable Electricity support mechanisms
Options and Consequences for the Mediterranean Countries
convegno  ROMA, , mercoledì 1 ottobre 2008
Representatives from Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain are invited to join this regional workshop hosted by the futures-e project. The workshop is part of a series of six regional workshops being held throughout the EU. Other workshops have been held in Poland, the UK, Lithuania, Slovenia and Germany (see www.futures-e.org for details).

The Project
The workshop is part of the futures-e project funded by Intelligent Energy Europe and supported by the European Commission Directorate General Energy and Transport (DG TREN). The key objective of the futures-e project is to involve Member State stakeholders in the debate on optimisation, coordination and harmonisation of renewable electricity policies and the process of post-2010 target setting. Further details about the project - including results from last year’s interim workshop in Brussels - can be found on the website: www.futures-e.org

The Workshop
Starting from the European Commission proposal for the new Renewable Energy Framework Directive, the workshop will discuss possible harmonisation and coordination of renewable electricity support policy among EU Member States, with a focus on the Mediterranean Area:

· What are the options for coordination at the regional level and EU levels?

· What would be the appetite for technology-specific harmonisation of policy? Could it bring benefits in particular to the offshore wind industry?

· What would be the consequences of different harmonisation or coordination options for the region and for individual Member States?

· What would be the constraints, and what would need to happen to further harmonisation of policy?

Throughout the day there will be opportunities for discussion and debate on the issues and the chance to share experiences. A draft agenda including the venue is attached. There is no cost for participation.

The workshop will be held within the conference “Concentrating solar power: which future for Italy and the Mediterranean Countries?”.
